7 days in Nicaragua

By: Dr. Francesca Vazquez

Traveling to Nicaragua is anything but your typical oversea trip. It is a beautiful country only 2.5 hours from Miami, filled with energizing people, volcanoes, surfing beaches, boutique restaurants, and incredible food.

You’ll arrive in Managua, the country’s capital. The people in Managua are probably one of the most beautiful and vibrant souls you will meet. They are passionate about their country and will make sure you connect with their good vibes and feel welcomed. It’s not necessary to stay in the capital, as most of the country’s beauty is right outside the city.

Renting a car is safe, easy and, with waze and google maps, you will have no problem finding your way. If you would rather not deal with the hassle of driving, you may set up transportation and/or a driver with your hotels.

Below, find a day-to-day breakdown of where to go and what to see in NICA as a wellness destination! These places are designed to bring out your free spirit and make you want to come back to NICARAGUA soon for more:

Day 1:

Arrive in Managua early in the day. Customs are a breeze and you will be out of the airport as quickly as you can possibly imagine. Car rental companies are right outside baggage claim. If you arranged for transportation, you will quickly find your driver holding up a board with your name. The airport is clean and modern. You can pay with USD almost anywhere, so there is no need to visit the currency exchange kiosk in the airport (and you’re better off anyway!). Wait until you leave the airport instead or don’t at all!

Once you leave Managua, drive to Granada, Nicaragua. It is an easy drive, only 45 minutes from the airport. You can choose to stop and see the Masaya Volcano (which is currently active). It is probably one of the most impressive sites you have ever seen and just a 10 minute drive from the main road. From here, your Nicaragua retreat begins.

Where to stay: Check in to Tribal Hotel, then venture out to La Calzada street for dinner.

This experience will be more upscale and if it’s not in your budget or interest, you can choose to spend an extra night or 2 in San Juan del Sur instead (and take a boat trip, go fishing, or surf some more). However, if looking to include some serious R&R into your vacation, head to Mukul Resort & Spa, a 5 star luxury hotel in the middle of nowhere.

Spend the rest of your days soaking up the sun by the pool, eating amazing food and enjoying the hotel’s amenities and offerings. You won’t need to leave the hotel for the rest of your trip.
